YER-MAAN will be the one to beat at the 20th edition of the prestigious Republic Cup at Borrowdale tomorrow. The absence of defending champion Lucky Sam may come as good news to other runners but the field is strong enough.

Lucky Sam managed to end the dominance of Equina last year with Randall Simmons holding the straps in the 19th edition of the event. The race will be run over 1 900 metres. However, it will be Yer-Maan, who will be the favourite after missing out in the last race meeting, the 2015 Grade 3 University of Zimbabwe Champion Juvenile Stakes race.

The six-year old last month won the Castle Tankard 2000m sprint and will once again have jockey Quinton Riddle on the saddles.

Yer-Maan also has the Castle Tankard which she won by 1,25 lengths ahead of Lucky Sam.

The grade three race has $40 000 purse with the winner taking home $24 000 and the runners-up getting $8 000 while third and fourth placed horses will pocket $4 800 and $2 400.

Final Field

Yer-Maan, Norgay (all St Jonh Gray); Rushmore River (Joe Soma); Super Trouper, Rock the Country (all Gokhan Terzi); Equina, Thriller in Manila, Gentle Brooke (all Amy Bronkhors); Warcraft (Alyson Wright); Two Gun Kid (D’Aquino); Menacing (Bridget Stido); Madigan, Diversify (Kirk Swanson)
