AMHLOPHE High School will play host to the Bulawayo provincial finals of the Youth Education through Sport (YES) Games next week.
Sport and Recreation Commission (SRC) provincial co-ordinator Sam Dzvimbu confirmed that the stage was set for the city finals as districts had completed the preliminary stage of the competition. “As we speak we are holding a workshop for the games’ participants, everything is set for the provincial finals next week,” he said.

Four districts Khami, Reigate, Mzilikazi and Imbizo will compete for the berth to represent the province in the YES national games to be held in Masvingo early next month.

Athletes representing schools and clubs will compete in three disciplines soccer, netball and volleyball.
Dzvimbu said only athletes who are Under-15 are eligible to participate in the event. Teams are expected to showcase their talents on and off the pitch.

“The winners must excel on the pitch and in community service, the winners will go as a team, these games are about team work,” said Dzvimbu.

A total of 107 teams from different sporting disciplines have registered to take part in the games with an estimated number of 2000 individuals playing.

Dzvimbu expressed satisfaction with the increased number of participating teams and confident that they will give a good account of themselves at the national finals.
