YES Games preparations in full swing

TEAM Bulawayo’s preparations for the Youth through Education and Sports (YES) Games scheduled to run from December 5-8 in Chinhoyi are in full swing ahead of their departure for Mashonaland West on Saturday morning.

The team will have a one night camp at Northlea High School on Friday.

Bulawayo Sports and Recreation coordinator Sam Dzvimbu said they were finalising preparations for the Games.

“Preparations for the games are in progress. We’ve managed to pay the $500 affiliation fees for the games and our teams have been training for some time now,” said Dzvimbu.

He said the teams now have the kit for the Games but transport to the Games’ venue will only be finalised once the exact number of athletes travelling is known.

The team was selected on the weekend of November 21 and Mgoqo Primary School will send two sides; a netball team and a girls’ football team.

Eveline High will represent the province in the girls’ volleyball and Mpumelelo Primary will provide the boys team. Sizane High will field the boys’ football team.

The YES Games were introduced by the Sports and Recreation Commission in 1999 with the aim of teaching life skills to youths through sports.
