You don’t waste time, you waste yourself

Rutendo Gwatidzo-Changing Perspectives

THE subject of time is a very interesting topic in that people will always have different views and choices on how to spend their time.

This past week I got to discuss the subject of time with work colleagues from different organisations and industries in order to pick different perspectives regarding time management.

I then managed to pick what I felt to be the generally agreed on perspectives so that I could share with you also through this article. The same way I picked helpful aspects, I believe that someone can also pick some life changing aspects.

Fun Facts About Time!

Time is a finite resource, yet many of us treat it as if we have an endless supply of it. In doing so, we often neglect the most important aspect of our lives: ourselves. One philosopher wisely noted, “It is not that we have a short time to live, but that we waste a  lot of it.”

This statement challenges us to confront how we utilise our days and how, in  turn, we are shaping our lives. When we waste time, we are not merely letting hours slip  away; we are allowing opportunities for growth, learning, and connection to vanish.

Each moment we spend doing aimlessness things detracts from our potential. Instead,  consider how you can reclaim your time. What activities nourish your soul? What  pursuits ignite your passions?

By answering these questions, you can begin to take a  course that aligns with your true self. Moreover, let’s examine the impact of digital  distractions. How much time do you spend on social media watching content that does  not benefit you?

In a world dominated by social media and constant notifications, it’s  easy to lose ourselves in mindless scrolling or endless streaming. While technology has  its benefits, it can also lead to a sense of disconnectedness and dissatisfaction.

What then?

Setting boundaries around technology use can help you reclaim precious time and  focus on what truly matters. Additionally, consider the importance of setting goals.

Having clear, attainable goals can provide direction and purpose, ensuring that your  time is spent meaningfully. Whether it’s pursuing a new skill, engaging in a passion project, or cultivating relationships, each goal serves as a stepping stone toward a more  fulfilling life.

Embrace the idea that every moment counts. Invest in yourself through  education, relationships, and experiences that propel you forward.

Reminder!

Remember, the true measure of time well spent is not in its quantity but in the quality of  what we choose to fill our lives with. In the end, it’s not about how much time we have,  but how we choose to use it. Reflect regularly on your priorities, and let your actions align with your values. This alignment is crucial for living a life of purpose and fulfilment.

Organisational Status

One of the challenges in many organisations that affect both managers and employees  is that of losing track of time doing things outside the set goals.

A lot of times many  people get busy for nothing. Fun enough, you can get to hear someone complaining about how busy the week or month was, yet without meeting any goal and you then wonder what business did take place.

Please be reminded that efficient work is beneficial to all but, mostly to you. Minimize distractions and focus on your priority tasks, make every minute count. It is okay to relax  and chill but, put relaxing time on schedule also so that you do not get to do it randomly.

When not carefully planned for, relaxing time can take the greater deal of time. In the  end, it leads to increased stress.

Be challenged, encouraged and inspired to work in a way that makes a positive  difference. You are the change you wish for, start now to implement the change  initiatives.
