YOUNG entrepreneurs have created over 90 000 jobs across the country in the past few years in line with Zim-Asset, Youth Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Minister Patrick Zhuwao has said.
Speaking at the Joshua Nkomo Memorial Youth Symposium in Bulawayo last Thursday, Minister Zhuwao said his ministry has identified more than 39 000 young entrepreneurs in different sectors throughout the country who have created more than 90 000 jobs.
He said young entrepreneurs created more jobs compared to what was created by Foreign Direct Investment in the past 10 years.
“We have the responsibility as Government to facilitate the growth of entrepreneurs hence this exercise to identify them, ” said Minister Zhuwao.
He said the Government through his ministry was committed to providing young entrepreneurs with technical and other relevant skills.
Minister Zhuwao said there is a need to integrate businesses of young entrepreneurs with big businesses.
Minister Zhuwao said his ministry was setting up a fund to provide working capital to young entrepreneurs.
“We are setting up as a ministry, an institution called Empower Bank to provide funding to businesses run by young entrepreneurs.
“We want you to be able to say I have capacity to borrow $20 and pay back the $20,” he said. — @Kiyaz_Cool
