Young Igwe misses album deadline

The album was expected to be released on 15 October, which is the first anniversary of his father’s death.

In an interview, Utakataka band manager, Suko Dube, said they decided to postpone the release of their first album as they are still working on a number of things.

“I discussed the issue with Peter and we decided to postpone the release of the album as the young man has got a number of things that he has to work on before he can get into the studio,” he said.

Dube said the Young Igwe was still working on his voice that still needs perfection to meet the standards set by his late father.

“Our mission is to produce better music and with that in mind we have decided to delay the release of our first album.

“We are still working on the voice of the young Igwe as we want him to be even better than his father,” he said.
Dube said Utakataka is working on a six-track DVD that would be released anytime soon.

“I can tell our music fans that we will not be releasing our first album on 15 October as per our promise, instead we are working on videos from Tongai’s last album Toitabasa,” he said

Toitabasa is a six-track album and some of the songs on the album include Toita Basa, Ndiro Yababa, Tsamba Ndakanyora, Imba Vaviri and Chiedza.

Dube said fans should expect an excellent product as they are working with experts in shooting videos for the DVD album.

“We want to give our fans value for their money and we also want to maintain the standards that were set by Tongai in all the previous videos that he shot,” he said.

When the Young Igwe took over as the new Utakataka band leader he posted a message on Facebook vowing to maintain his father’s legacy by keeping the band intact.

“I will dedicate my first album to Mopao Mokonzi Igwe.

“My father worked so hard to build this band in the early 90s, and when he started they were only four and now the band consists of 18 guys. He did everything to keep this band going and no one will destroy this band for as long as I am alive.

“Utakataka will forever shine all over the nation and we will always be among the best,” he said.
