Youthful afro-jazz singer Tendai Mavengeni seems determined to conquer the music world. The 14-year-old musician is in the studio working on her second seven–track album titled “Tendai”.
The album is set to be out in October and it features veteran jazz crooner Victor Kunonga.
Backed by her eight-member ensemble named “All Ages”, the youthful singer proved her lyrical prowess in her debut album called “Destiny” which introduced her to the music industry in a big way.
Being talented as she is, Tendai said the title to her album means a lot to her.
“Tendai is a Shona word that is my name and on this particular album, I am thanking my parents for raising me and their undying support for my career.
“On the second meaning, it is dedicated to the Almighty for creating and blessing me with this talent,” she said.
She said on the seventh track “Tendai”, has enlisted the services of Kunonga.
“Brother Victor Kunonga will feature on this track where he will be playing an acoustic guitar, and it is going to be good working with him,” she said.
Tendai promised to give her fans an early Christmas present, rich in both lyrical content and soul-soothing instrumentation.
“This is going to be the best album that my fans should look forward to. I added some variations, though it still maintains its afro-traditional jazz flavour since I have included marimba, rhythm guitar and shackles,” she said.
Kunonga said it was an honour to be invited to work with such a youthful and talented singer like Tendai.
“I am going to feature on a single track on Tendai’s album. It has been always a pleasure and I enjoy working with young stars. I have also worked with Norman Masamba and it is exciting in the sense that young stars brings in fresh ideas,” he said.
The album, which is pregnant with social commentaries, will serve to be a warning shot from the youngster.
Some tracks to look forward to include “Buka Iro”, “Let’s Be One” and “Xenophobia”.
