BULAWAYO-BASED young karatekas made history in South Africa where they scooped 30 medals ranging from gold to bronze and silver.
The karatekas from KareteNomichi Zimbabwe Bulawayo club emerged second from 10 dojos from different categories.
The participants scooped gold (5), silver (9), and bronze (16).
This is the 5th consecutive competition in which the club has scored big in South Africa.
The club, which is made up of young karatekas, is aimed at moulding and grooming the young children in activities that keep them busy.
The club’s trainer, Sensei Greatmans expressed his gratitude.
“I would like to express my gratitude and humbled happiness for the support we got from the members and dedication to KarateNoMichi.
“Thank you so much for believing in me as the mentor of the little ones, and we got 30 medals in total, coming second out of 10 dojos,” he said.
The success of these karatekas extended beyond their individual achievements.
Their victories continue to entice the dojo community and martial arts among local youth.
An executive member, Maxim Murungweni, said the club has been doing great in grooming the future leaders and a disciplined generation.
“We aim to mould our children to be disciplined, respectful and resilient to face life challenges.
“We are also teaching them to contribute towards the development of our country and lift our country’s flag wherever they go, like they have done by winning these 30 medals,” he said.
Murungweni said that the club is feeling honoured by the performance of the children.
“The club goes to South Africa every year, and this is a milestone as the youngsters made the country proud. They did the club and the province proud at the regional level.
