Zimbabwe’s film sector is witnessing the rise of new faces, fresh ideas and vibrant talent, with young women eager to reshape the industry. One such rising star is Londile Mlotshwa, affectionately known as “Londie,” who is steadily making her mark in nationally recognised productions.
Londie has quickly become a familiar face, portraying roles in various films such as the schoolgirl in 1894, Lena Siziba in 6th Avenue and Sinikiwe in Freedom Comes Dancing.
She credits her passion for acting to her school days when her interest in storytelling blossomed.
“I started acting in 2016 while I was in Form One at Mzilikazi High School before I transferred to Montrose Girls High. I am inspired by the power of storytelling and its ability to connect with audiences on a deeper level. Growing up, I admired the works of Connie Ferguson, Nomzamo Mbatha and Sindi Dlathu. The way they could bring characters to life left me in awe,” said Londie.
She added that as she grew older, she became more determined to pursue acting seriously, attending classes and workshops to hone her craft.
“Over time, I began to take acting more seriously. I attended various classes and workshops. Along the way, I faced rejection and self-doubt, but I’ve learnt to persevere and stay true to my vision. I’m eager to take on more challenging roles in the future,” she said.
Londie is optimistic about her career prospects.
“I’m looking forward to being part of either theatre or film productions this year. One of my main career goals is to land a role in a TV series and I’m actively seeking auditions and networking opportunities to make that happen.
“I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had so far and excited to see what the future holds,” she said. — @mthabisi_mthire
