PROMISNG female tennis star, 10-year-old Kudzaishe Chapepa is set to take on her regional counterparts when she takes part in the Growthpoint Series in South Africa this week.

After dominating her age group in the country this year, Chapepa is set to test her prowess against players from other Southern African countries at the tournament that is scheduled for the Belgrave Tennis Club in Pretoria from 3 to 8 January.

Chapepa closed the year on a high after clinching the New Winners tourney that was held in Harare a fortnight ago.

That victory came after she had scored success at various events during the year as she dominated the Under-12 girls section nationally, winning almost all the competitions she has taken part in.

Her coach, Thesly Mufunda said after dominating the local scene the young player has to take on foreign opposition to continually gauge her progress in the sport.

“She is still learning the ropes and after playing well this year and dominating her peers, it’s now time for her to spread her wings and we see how she fares against foreign opposition,” he said.

Chapepa will be accompanied by her mother, Alice and Mufunda on the trip.
