THE Young Warriors and Mighty Warriors trooped into camp over the weekend to prepare for their African Games qualifiers against Cameroon and Ghana towards the end of the month.
The Young Warriors are camped at ZRP Support Unit (Chikurubi) while the Mighty Warriors are at the CMED Training Centre in Belvedere.
Coached by former Dynamos coach Callisto Pasuwa, the boys will play host to the mighty Cameroon on March 21 while the girls will be away in Ghana on the same weekend. Four goalkeepers Tatenda Mukuruva (Dynamos), Bernard Donovan (How Mine), Tatenda Gwademba (Harare City) and Akim Abdular (Sunshine Dodges, Australia) were called up as well as Netherlands based Marvelous Nakamba and Kudakwashe Mahachi.
Promising Highlanders striker Thomas Chideu has also been called up.
Mighty Warriors coach Rosemary Mugadza called up a 25-member squad that also includes three Hwange FC players, Pamela Mhlanga, Bokani Sibanda and Sanelinkosi Ncube.
In a bizarre turn of events, Mhlanga has allegedly snubbed the national team call-up, choosing instead to play netball for the Hwange Ladies.
Mhlanga was spotted playing for Hwange Ladies on Saturday afternoon, the day she should have been in camp.
Unlike their male counterparts who had a fixture in the preliminary round against Swaziland who later pulled out, the Mighty Warriors were exempted from playing in the preliminary round.
