THE national Under-20 football team will seek redemption when they face Kenya in the last match of a triangular tournament in Lilongwe, Malawi today.
Initially, it was meant to be a four-nations tournament but Zambia withdrew early this week leaving just three participants.
The Young Warriors will go into today’s match looking for a comfortable victory to ensure that they do not finish bottom after losing the opening match against Malawi 2-3 on Wednesday.
After conceding goals from defensive errors, Young Warriors captain Allan Chapinduka hopes that the team learns from the mistakes.
“I feel that we should have won the match against Malawi but unfortunately we made mistakes which we hope to learn from as we are targeting a victory against Kenya tomorrow (today)” said Chapinduka.
Young Warriors coach Simon Marange, feels that Kenya have a slight advantage going into today’s match and has challenged his players to be more aggressive.
“It is very difficult to play a very fresh Kenya, a team that is yet to play a game in this tournament.
“We will continue with the same preparations that we had from the beginning.
“And it was obviously one training day in between the matches and it was more about recovery and regeneration so we are not looking to change the approach we had prior to the tournament except that we need to be more ruthless and intentional when we have the ball,” said Marange.
Marange feels that his charges will have to learn from Wednesday’s defensive mistakes to avoid a repeat.
“We need to work on our defensive transition because we conceded two goals from having the ball which they won and created a chance and want to work on that so that we do not succumb to attacking transition from the opposition.”
