“You’re baboons and you are poor!”
Those were the shocking words hurled by a 32-year-old Mahatshula North man at his own mother and father in a disgraceful outburst recently.
Thomas Mpala appeared before Bulawayo Magistrate Evia Matura facing charges of contempt of court after he blatantly violated a restraining order and stormed his parents’ home with a filthy tirade.
He was remanded in custody until 10 July, with no plea recorded.
He has plenty of time to reflect on the error of his ways in a cold cell.
Insulting one’s parents is not only un-African but deeply shameful. Mpala’s foul-mouthed would make any African cringe.
Prosecutor Josephine Gurazhira told the court that between January 12 and 13, Mpala went to his parents’ home in Mahatshula North despite a standing court order barring him from doing so.
He reportedly shouted at his mother, Grace Mpala, telling her and her husband that they were “baboons” who had failed to build a proper house.
“He said we are baboons. He said we are poor and useless. He insulted us again the next day,” Grace told the court, visibly shaken.
While the finer details of the restraining order could not be obtained during the hearing, it was clear that Mpala had no business being at the property.
His actions were not only a clear violation of the law but a disgusting act of disrespect.
A neighbour said: “That boy is out of control. Who calls their own parents baboons? That’s not how we were raised.”
Mpala now sits behind bars where some say he might finally learn the value of respect.
