THE Zimbabwe Youth and Paralympic Games have now been deferred to April 2019 due to the cholera outbreak.
The games were to have been held in the Midlands province in August, but a cholera outbreak that has so far claimed over 40 lives forced organisers to postpone the event as a preventative measure.
This decision was made by the games’ assembly meeting on Tuesday attended by provincial general managers, sport competition directors, Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation officials, Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) officials and local organising committee (LOC).
SRC spokesperson, Tirivashe Nheweyembwa, said it was agreed that preparations were going to continue at LOC and provincial level.
“This was according to the Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation after consultations with other key ministries such as the Ministry of Health and Child Care, Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and others who felt there was need to give more time to the containment of the typhoid and cholera outbreaks,” said Nheweyembwa. — @DecoDecent2
