Youth games launch tomorrow

THE Sport, Arts and Culture Ministery, in collaboration with the Local Organising Committee, will tomorrow launch the African Union Sports Council Region Five Under-20 Youth Games at Rainbow Hotel in Bulawayo. Zimbabwe will host this year’s Games, formerly known as the Zone Six Youth Games, in the same city from December 5 to 14 and preparations are already underway with the refurbishment of various venues.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sport, Arts and Culture Thokozile Chitepo said the launch will be graced by Vice President Joice Mujuru.
“The Vice President of Zimbabwe, Honourable Amai Joice Mujuru, shall officially launch the Games.

“The launch is intended to raise awareness and publicise Zimbabwe’s hosting of the sixth edition of the Games.
“Additionally, this will be an opportunity to invite partnerships and other sponsorships towards the successful hosting of the Games,” said Chitepo.

Chitepo said the Government was committed to the hosting of the Games and have set up a Cabinet Committee, chaired by Senior Minister of the State in the Office of the President, Simon Khaya Moyo.

“The Government of Zimbabwe is committed to the successful hosting of the Games. In accordance to with the AUSC goals, the Games are intended to help strengthen solidarity within the Southern Region and promote community spirit, performance and ideals of peace, brotherhood and African Unity.”
