THE Zanu-PF National Youth League has reversed suspensions that followed votes of no confidence passed last Friday night by two camps in the wing’s Manicaland provincial executive, saying the pronouncements were bent on destroying the party.
Addressing the warring youths at a tense meeting held in Mutare on Tuesday, the Secretary for Youth Affairs, Cde Pupurai Togarepi, blamed political heavyweights in the province for using the league to champion their selfish agendas.
He urged youths to unite and work as the vanguard of the party.
“We have discovered that there is disunity and fighting for positions here in Manicaland. You are being hoodwinked by some Politburo and Central Committee members to act the way you are doing. By merely reading the letters you wrote we found out that there is a hand behind all this.
“To this end, we have come to give you direction. If we fire everyone like what you want to achieve, what will become of the party,” he said.
Cde Togarepi said instead of investing their energy to lure more people to the party, the youths were being used to destroy it.
“President Mugabe wants us to be united and work together to defend the revolution and be good leaders of tomorrow. No one should pay specific allegiance to a certain leader but to the party which is led by President Mugabe,” added the Secretary for Youths Affairs.
He rubbished the planned recalling of deputy secretary for youth affairs, Cde Kudzanai Chipanga, by the provincial executive saying they do not have the power to do that.
“Cde Chipanga was elected by 10 provinces in the country. You can recommend having him recalled but you do not have the power to remove him from where he is. You cannot do that as an individual or a province. We should follow proper party procedures when we conduct ourselves,” said Cde Togarepi.
He told the youths to go and tell leaders that were fanning disunity among them to stop forthwith.
“Go and tell those faction leaders that the Youth League is a hard hat area. We will demonstrate against them and have them removed if they continue to fan disunity among us. Let’s build the party and learn to solve our problems alone. From now on you must work together. From this minute anyone who thinks otherwise must resign in my presence.”
Cde Togarepi warned the warring youths that the national executive will dissolve the entire provincial executive if they continue to sing from different hymn books.
“If you don’t change we will dissolve the entire executive and ensure that none of previous office bearer’s will be re-elected,” he said.
The provincial youth chairman, Cde Kelvin Manyengavana who had been shown the red card was thrust back into his seat and ordered to bring normalcy and unite the youths.
