THE Zanu PF Youth League has urged Cuba to adopt Zimbabwe’s agroecological blueprint, despite the sanctions imposed on the country by Western powers.
Zimbabwe and Cuba have a strong bond but the two countries are both victims of illegal sanctions imposed by Western countries.

Speaking at the fifth International Conference of Youth Researchers in Varadero City, Matanza Province, Cuba, Youth League deputy secretary for Commissariat, Cde Taurai Kandishaya, said Zimbabwe’s successful agricultural transformation was through youth empowerment, agroecology and technology under President Mnangagwa.

“The Zimbabwean experience offers valuable lessons for Cuba, particularly in overcoming challenges and driving sustainable agricultural development,” he said.

“By sharing best practices in agroecology and youth-driven agricultural innovation, Zimbabwe and Cuba can further strengthen their collaboration and build resilient, food-secure futures for their youth.”

Cde Kandishaya emphasised the importance of the “Nyika Inovakwa Nevene Vayo” (A nation is built by its own people) philosophy championed by President Mnangagwa.

He said the philosophy promotes self-reliance, patriotism, and collective responsibility in driving Zimbabwe’s development agenda.

“The philosophy aligns with Zimbabwe’s focus on empowering rural youth to lead the agricultural revolution, reinforcing the belief that Zimbabweans must be the primary drivers of their own prosperity,” Cde Kandishaya said.

Agroecological practices are a manifestation of local solutions to global challenges like climate change.

Zimbabwean youth are taking ownership of food production and sustainable farming systems through initiatives like the Presidential Input Scheme, Youth Empowerment Bank, and investment in innovation hubs.

“As Zimbabwe works toward Vision 2030, the principle of self-reliance has guided initiatives that ensure the country’s resources are harnessed by its people, reducing dependence on foreign aid and external inputs,” Cde Kandishaya said.

“Through the application of ‘Nyika Inovakwa Nevene Vayo’, Zimbabwe has seen increased youth participation in farming, expanded agricultural output, and the adoption of innovative technologies, all contributing to a stronger and more resilient economy.”
