A local security company and a Bulawayo family lost over US$68 000 cash and five guns to robbers in separate incidents.
In Bulawayo, the robbers raided a house where they stole US$45 000 cash before shooting one of the occupants in the chest while in Harare, a gang of other robbers raided a security company before stealing more than US$23 000, five guns, seven pepper sprays and seven pairs of handcuffs.
A manhunt has since been launched for the robbers who are still at large.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incidents.
“The ZRP is appealing for information that may assist in the investigation of a case of robbery which occurred at a house in Habane Township, Esgodini on October 5, 2024, at around 6.30 pm,” he said.
“Two unknown suspects who were armed with two pistols pounced at the house and stole US$45 000 cash. During the incident, one occupant was shot in the chest and is currently receiving medical attention at a hospital in Bulawayo.”
Meanwhile, on October 3, 2024, eight robbers who were armed with pistols and iron bars attacked a security guard who was on duty at a local security company along Lymigton Road in Strathaven, Harare before stealing US$23 175 cash, five firearms, seven pepper sprays and seven handcuffs.
Police are appealing to anyone with information that might assist with investigations to contact any nearest police station.
