An 18-year-old man from Silobela has been convicted for assaulting a sex worker after a payment dispute.

In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said the Kwekwe Magistrates’ Court heard that on September 21 this year, around 9 pm, the offender engaged the complainant for sexual services at Springvest Night Club and agreed on a fee of US$5.

After the act, he demanded his money back, claiming the commercial sex worker had not given him value for his money.

When the woman refused, the man picked up an empty bottle and struck her on the forehead before repeatedly punching her while pulling her braided hair.

He was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment, wholly suspended on condition that he performs 315 hours of community service.

The NPA urged the public to desist from senseless acts of violence, stressing that disagreements are better resolved amicably or through third-party mediation.
