THE World Federation for Democratic Youth African Regional Commission ended in Harare yesterday with the body calling for a continental currency and passport.

In a communique read by WFDY African Commission vice-president Naftal Kambungu, the summit declared: “In terms of ownership of African resources, there be comprehensive African ownership, value addition, beneficiation and investment in exploration to quantify, qualify and process the resource.

“African governments be strongly enjoined to explore the feasibility of a single currency for Africa backed by local gold … (We) urge African governments to immediately institute a universal passport.”

The commission also condemned Morocco’s occupation of the Saharawi Democratic Republic. Zanu-PF National Secretary for External Affairs in the Youth League, Cde Sibongile Sibanda, handed over the WFDY flag to Congo-Brazzaville’s representative as host of the next summit.

Youth representatives from across Africa attended the meeting.
