adminfarm that has not been operational since 2006. The farm belongs to the Industrial Development Bank of Zimbabwe.
IBDZ spokesperson Ms Priscilla Mapuranga said the bank was in the process of mobilising resources to start projects at the farm.
In an interview, the club spokesperson and programmes co-ordinator Mr Venon Muringani said the youths want to use land for their development.
“We want to work for our own area’s development. There are no mines or industries in the district so we want to use the vast tracts of land we have,” he said.
Mr Muringani said the youths were worried that equipment at the farm and workshop could be vandalised.
“We want to produce on the farm and the workshop could be used for skills development of the youths,” he said.
Zanu-PF Youth League secretary for security Cde John Mushayi said the farm and factory could provide employment for youths in the district.
“We are crying for empowerment but there are places lying idle with factory equipment and irrigation facilities.
“We want to take over this place, whether we have to pay something to the IBDZ as long as we use this farm and factory the youths would be happy.”
He challenged leaders to assist youths with projects.
Chikomba West legislator Cde Michael Bimha said the district leadership was in discussion with the IBDZ to extend youth projects to the farm.
