A group of 17 youths has produced a polished teen movie titled “Monalisa” whose première is set for the United Kingdom before the end of the year. The director of the movie, Artwell Mukonyora, of Angel Arts Productions said the footage and final touches to the “edutainment” initiative were at an advanced stage.

“With the little resources and stuff we have managed to source on our own we are looking forward to a vibrant production that is meant to educate the youths around the world at the same time setting the record straight for other youths in Zimbabwe. They should not hold back on their ambitions.

“In this movie, all characters have a  very good understanding of our theme and as the production team we picked the crème de la crème of aspiring actors and actresses who gave a polished act,” said Mukonyora.

“Monalisa” is about youths’ involvement in dangerous activities such as drug abuse and unwanted pregnancies.
Mukonyora added that the other motive was to encourage and share with youngsters the consequences of life in the fast lane.

This comes in the wake of a sharp rise in teenage pregnancy across the globe.
“Monalisa” is a star-studded short feature film featuring renowned and top model Namatai Chipunza (script writer), Star Brite 2013 top five finalist Richie Orange, Tinashe Wakapila (editor), Phillip Marumba (production manager), Bianca Chifamba (make-up artist) and the director Artwell Mukonyora, who won several accolades in Denmark as a film director.

Most of the leading characters have featured in previous local dramas.
The highlights of the movie are going to be shown in all cinemas across the country after the UK première sometime in December this year.

Mukonyora has shot more than 100 videos locally and produced a television show in Denmark called “Night Life in Denmark”.
