Youths embark on children’s rights awareness campaign

The awareness campaigns are done through drama and poetry.

YLHR is the brainchild of a Human Rights Club at Emakhandeni Secondary School.

The group is on a tour of different schools and communities empowering and raising awareness among children on their rights. In an interview, the group’s leader, Privilledge Ndlovu, said that they had decided to form the peer group in order to spearhead children’s rights.

“As youths at times our interests and rights are being overlooked, we are encouraging and educating our friends at a tender age to know their rights and laws that protect them from being abused. As children we need to speak out and report any form of abuse such as child labour, rape to responsible authorities such as child rights protection organisations,” said Ndlovu.

Ndlovu said that their organisation was going around schools and local communities, interacting and educating children through drama, songs and poetry with themes about their right to education and their right to speak and seek protection from any form of abuse.
