Youths urged to embrace relevant skills

YOUTHS should embrace lifelong skills so that they remain relevant in society, an official has said.
Speaking during the graduation of 76 youths at Hlekwini Vocational Training Centre, Tsholotsho Rural District Council executive officer (finance) Mr Khumbulani Hlabangana said graduates should emulate the positive attitudes of those who have gone before them as a way of acquiring skills that would assist them in their lives.

Mr Hlabangana said vocational education was being influenced by market demands.
“We have heard that courses offered include agriculture, building, carpentry, welding, sewing, garment making, home decoration, early childhood development and plumbing.

“ I am glad to note that Hlekwini is also adjusting to current industry trends.”
The institution recently introduced entrepreneurship training in all courses, a move aimed at equipping all its trainees with business development skills.

The institution has extended its hand to different districts in Matabeleland offering free vocational skills training to a number of disadvantaged youths. The courses take six months.

“Tsholotsho district for one has benefited a lot in this programme, l know that other districts have also had their chances as well,” he said.
Speaking at the same occasion, director of the institution, Mr Innocent Moyo appealed to the Government to fund institutions like Hlekwini, in order to empower more youths.

“If such institutions are funded by the Government, we will have many youths enrolling and they will in future  play a bid role in nation building,” said Mr Moyo
