THE Zanu-PF Youth League yesterday warned all party officials involved in the conspiracy to unseat President Mugabe against attending the ongoing 6th National People’s Congress or face unspecified action.
The warning came as Vice-President Joice Mujuru who is accused of leading the faction conspiring to overthrow President Mugabe, failed to attend the second consecutive Politburo meeting. Also absent were party secretary for administration Cde Didymus Mutasa and Cde Nicholas Goche who stand accused of working with the VP in the plot.
Addressing journalists at a press conference held at the Zanu-PF headquarters, deputy secretary for youth affairs Cde Kudzai Chipanga said the threats to unseat the President would not augur well for government development programmes.
Cde Chipanga said the league reaffirms the candidature of President Mugabe as the party’s sole candidate to lead the revolutionary party during and after the 6th Zanu-PF National People’s Congress. He reiterated the league’s position that the First Lady Cde Grace Mugabe should be appointed to be the Zanu-PF national secretary for women’s affairs. “Anyone who’s directly linked to or have participated in any activity, meeting or any form of unscrupulous gathering with the intention of unconstitutionally overthrowing the leadership of our revolutionary icon the President and First Secretary of Zanu-PF Cde RG Mugabe must peacefully excuse themselves from the 6th Zanu-PF National People’s Congress,” said Cde Chipanga.
“Anyone who’s been implicated in these dirty tricks and treasonous activities of undermining the authority of the President and First Secretary Cde RG Mugabe must excuse themselves from taking part in the 6th Zanu PF national congress.”
Cde Chipanga said as mandated by the party constitution that the Zanu-PF Youth League is loyal and will forever be loyal to President Mugabe they were declaring that, “all treacherous acts are a threat to the revolutionary ideals of the party, its founding values and the values of the constitution of the Republic of Zimbabwe.
‘‘These threats will not augur well with youth empowerment as well as the full implementation of Zim Asset.
“Thus we strongly advise that those involved in these clandestine meetings and those involved in these treasonous acts will not be welcome,” said Cde Chipanga.
Asked to mention the officials, Cde Chipanga said it was not necessary as all those implicated had already been named in media reports. He said those involved in the preparations for the congress but involved in the plot to oust the President were not welcome. Pressed on what action they would take if the party officials turned up, Cde Chipanga insisted they would deal with the officials.
