Baines Junior School-based Dumisani Mankunzini Cricket Initiative will be holding a juniors’ training clinic at the school from December 8-12.
Former Zimbabwe Under-19 and Matabeleland Tuskers franchise cricketer Dumisani Mankunzini whose brains are behind the DMCI said the training clinic is for junior cricketers between the ages of 11 and 16.
Mankunzini said there will be specialists that will train and test the kids that will attend the clinic.
“We’re inviting specialists from Zimbabwe Cricket that will teach the youngsters the basics of cricket, focusing on batting, bowling and fielding,” he said.
The training clinic will also be used to identify talent for the academy for the 2015 season.
“We will also use the training clinic to identify players that we will recruit for the 2015 season and to prepare for our annual tour of Botswana for the former Zimbabwe Under-19 player, Trymore Taruvinga’s Cubs Academy tour,” said Mankunzini
He said they are targeting youngsters from western suburbs who are not exposed to training clinics.
Mankunzini said they would charge the kids $20 for the whole tour to cover the specialists and equipment expenses.
He emphasized the need for parents to support their children in nurturing their talents which is vital for the future of Zimbabwe cricket.
“Parents should support their children who have a passion for cricket, they can help develop Zimbabwe cricket through supporting their children,” he said.
