HERENTALS owner, Innocent Benza, was a very happy father on Friday night as his son Tino took the Fans’ Choice award at the Soccer Star of the Year awards ceremony.
It’s the second time, in as many years, that the young forward has grabbed the award.
It is chosen by fans, through a secure digital platform, which is provided by the sponsors, Delta Beverages.
While Herentals fans, who include students at their various schools, vote en-masse for their star player, the other bigger clubs, including Dynamos, Highlanders and CAPS United, do not encourage their fans to vote for their stars.
It’s a point which was raised by the Soccer Stars of the Year convenor of selectors, Lawrence Moyo, in his address on Friday night.
If Dynamos, for example, had rallied their millions of fans to vote for Donald Mudadi, the best player in their stable this season, it’s very likely he will have won the award ahead of Tino.
