Zaba general assembly on

THE Zimbabwe Amateur Boxing Association will today hold their general assembly in Gweru to map the way forward for the sport.
Zaba secretary-general, Goodwill Sibanda, said they will be dealing with various issues related to the development of the sport, including the appointment of interim executives for provinces that do not have proper structures in place.

Some of the provinces that have been operating without proper substantive executives are Manicaland and Matabeleland North.

“What we are doing is we have said provinces without structures, we will put interim committees. Bulawayo and Harare have structures although we are not happy with the structure in Harare.

“Mashonaland West also has a structure but it’s dubious, we are not happy with it as well. Manicaland and Matabeleland North were operating without structures in place.

“But now our constitution requires that there should be proper structures in line with the SRC, ZOC and our own international federation requirements where we are saying there should be structures to ensure the development of sport. Without that there is no development,” Sibanda said. The Zaba secretary-general said the general assembly will also see the chairman presenting his report and the financial statement.

“We will have the chairman’s report, the secretary-general’s report as well as the financial report.

“We are looking at competition and the international game and the filling of vacancies. All provinces are attending, we have sent invitations out and we are going to have representatives from all over the country.

“We are going to host the Zambians in an international tournament, on March 24, so we want provinces to send their fighters for selection.

“We are also looking at coaching, we are going to hold international coaching courses and we want to provinces to see who qualifies for those courses,” said Sibanda.

Zaba technical director, Petros Masiyambumbi, said they were hoping the general assembly will also deliberate on the participation of women in boxing.
