The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has arrested seven people in connection with the smuggling of four tonnes of chicken cuts into the country.

The contraband was intercepted at Mahusekwa turnoff in Mashonaland East Province following a tip-off from a whistle-blower.

ZACC also impounded the truck used to transport the smuggled goods.

The intercepted chicken cuts have since been destroyed at the Marondera dumping site.

ZACC’s manager for investigations, Mr Lovemore Findi commended the public for providing crucial information that led to the arrests.

“On Sunday, we received a tip-off from a whistle-blower that some smuggled meat had entered the country through Beitbridge Border Post,” he said.

“So we set up a team to intercept the contraband, which we successfully did at Mahusekwa turn off just before the tollgate into Harare.

“With the assistance of the Zimbabwe Republic Police, we managed to apprehend seven people who are part of the racket.”
