ZACC hails Chimombe sentence

THE Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission says the recent sentencing of Mike Chimombe to 12 years in prison is irrefutable evidence of the Government’s commitment to eliminating corruption without prejudice.

Chimombe and his business partner Moses Mpofu, who were at the centre of the Presidential Goat Pass-On Scheme, got a combined 27 years in jail after being convicted of defrauding the Government of over US$7 million in public funds meant for vulnerable rural households.

In an interview yesterday, ZACC chairperson Mr Michael Reza said the judgment aligns perfectly with the national anti-graft stance articulated by President Mnangagwa.

“We are all aware that one of the convicted persons is a very senior member of the ruling party, but that did not save him from answering for his misdeeds,” said Mr Reza.

“So, it simply shows that when His Excellency said ‘in the fight against corruption, no one will be spared’, he really meant it.”

The ZACC chief added that the judiciary’s action confirmed that the President’s declarations  were being translated into tangible legal outcomes.

  1. I beg to differ. Had these low lives not been associated with the “correct” side of politics, they would have been slapped with heavier sentences.
