A team from the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission is on a nationwide campaign to educate secondary school learners, teachers and ancillary staff on the evils and dangers of corruption.
This in line with the Presidential pronouncements on zero tolerance to corruption and the strengthening of the anti-corruption drive and demystifying the perception that the organisation is a toothless bulldog.
The team toured Rujeko, Gweshe, Howard and Langham high schools in Mazowe District of Mashonaland Central province on Tuesday.
Leader of the team, ZACC manager responsible for public education, research and publicity, Dr Onesmus Nyaude, said they were targeting learners because they were the future generations.
“This campaign is in line with the Presidential pronouncements on zero tolerance on corruption and strengthening the anti-corruption drive,” he said. “This way we decided to embark on this programme to demystify the perception that ZACC is a toothless bulldog.
“ZACC has a broader mandate which include public education, corruption prevention, investigation and international cooperation, which is supported by the constitutional mandate.”
Dr Nyaude said ZACC has a new look which reflects the seriousness of the Second Republic in tackling the scourge of corruption as it will be enlisting the public, public entities and the private sector support.
He said so far they covered 28 schools in Mashonaland East and they intend to educate about 25 secondary schools in Mashonaland Central Province and eventually the whole country.
The tour comes after the Government gave ZACC arresting powers in a bid to intensify the fight against corruption.
