Zahara scoops eight SAMAs, breaks record

 

by walking away with eight awards.

Her awards included Best Newcomer and Female Artist of the Year and Best Selling Artist awards. Soul house trio, Micasa, also stole the limelight last night, scooping three awards. Class and style was the order of the day as guests, artists and SAMA nominees showed off their unique style of designer outfits on the yellow carpet.

It was all fireworks as the country’s biggest acts took the centre stage, leaving the crowd yearning for more. From Snotkop to the various music collaborations, the crowd was awe-struck with every live performance.

Gospel and Traditional musicians were also recognised. In a moving tribute, fallen musical legends were remembered. All Boy band, Micasa left the crowd gasping for more, scooping three awards including Best Dance album.

South African Idols season 6 Runner Up and new kid on the block, Llyod Cele, scooped his first SAMA award for best Pop Album. Solo Hip Hop Artist, AKA, also shined, walking away with two awards including the Best Male Artist of the Year.

The 18th SAMA awards also honoured Legendary musical icons Ray Phiri and Vusi Mahlasela with the Lifetime Achievement Awards for their contribution in building unity during and post the apartheid era through their lyrical content. — SABC news.
