Zaka cop killer arrested

A Zaka suspected armed robber who allegedly shot and killed two police detectives in Ndanga, Zaka, on Sunday morning, has been arrested.

Daniel Munyanyi (50) of Ndemu Village was cornered by alert members of the public who effected a citizen’s arrest today in Mashoko, Bikita.

On Sunday, Munyanyi allegedly opened fire and killed Constables Mckenzie Chitsowe and Bernard Chimbeke, who were attached to Harare CID Homicide.

The two detectives were part of a team of police officers who were tracking down Munyanyi and four other suspected armed robbers.

One of the dead detectives died on the spot while the other one died on his way to Masvingo Provincial Hospital.

Acting Masvingo provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Masauso Patinyu confirmed Munyanyi’s arrest.

“We are still gathering more details pertaining to the suspect’s arrest but he was arrested by members of the public,” he said.
