THE adage that crime does not pay is proving true for jailed armed robber Daniel Munyanyi after he was slapped with an additional 77 years in jail by a Masvingo regional magistrate after conviction for more felonies.
Munyanyi (50) will now spend a total of 139 years in jail after magistrate Mr Innocent Bepura, on Tuesday, jailed him after convicting him for an additional six counts of armed robbery, one count of attempted murder, six counts of theft and another six counts of unlawful entry.
Munyanyi was jailed for an effective 62 years last week for various cases of armed robbery.
On top of the 139 year-jail term, Munyanyi will come back to court on March 20 to face two counts of murder after he allegedly shot dead two Harare Homicide police detectives in Ndanga, Zaka.
His latest conviction by Mr Bepura literally condemns Munyanyi to life in jail, as he will only finish his combined sentence in the year 2165.
In the latest conviction, Mr Bepura jailed Munyanyi for 10 years for each of his six counts of armed robbery.
For attempted murder, Munyanyi was jailed for seven years and a combined 10 years for various cases of theft and unlawful entry.
Mr Bepura expressed concern that Munyanyi’s use of violence in the commission of his offences showed he was a danger to society. Mr Liberty Hove appeared for the State.
