AFTER turning heads in their debut season, Zimbabwe’s Zambezi Eagles are ready to soar once again as they return to the prestigious Telkom Netball League — the largest franchise netball competition on the African continent.
The tournament kicks off on 13 June in South Africa’s North West Province, and this time, the Eagles are aiming even higher.
Following an impressive maiden campaign, the team returns with renewed focus and a refined game plan.
“We’re going in with the same objectives but a different approach. We have the right combinations now, but South African teams are familiar with our playstyle, so we need to adjust tactically across all departments,” said John Banda, the Zambezi Eagles’ technical director.
Banda emphasised that the team has spent time analysing their previous performances, identifying key weaknesses, and working relentlessly to improve. Their return to the Telkom League is not just about competition — it forms part of a broader strategic blueprint set by the Zimbabwe Netball Association to prepare for the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers in Australia.
“This platform is vital. We’re using it to prepare and select players who could be part of the Gems squad for the Africa Qualifiers,” Banda said.
The Eagles will enter camp from May 30 to June 11, intensifying their preparations with rigorous training sessions to meet the high level of competition expected.
“We’re facing three of South Africa’s top-tier teams. And for our players, that’s exactly the kind of test we need. That high-level exposure is invaluable,” Banda said.
Confident and battle-ready, the Zambezi Eagles are poised to showcase their skills, compete fiercely, and leave a lasting impression once again. Their mission is clear — not just to participate, but to prove they belong among the best.
