Zambia police chief vows to deal with corrupt cops

stop getting bribes from copper thieves in the province commonly called jerabos (colloquial for jailbirds) unless the government improves their conditions of service.
The officers said the jerabos were generous as they paid them handsomely and that this will not stop as long as their conditions of service do not improve. But Zambia Police Service Inspector General Stella Libongani said investigations have been launched to establish who the officers were and warned that they will be disciplined once found. She said it is not in order for police officers to engage in corrupt activities because of poor condition of service.
The copper thieves have been a terror to mining companies and are known for their lavish lifestyles as they are connected to high ranking police officers as well as politicians.
