“Siliya has today appeared before a combined team of investigators, which includes the Zambia Police, Anti-Corruption Commission and the Drug Enforcement Commission, over the irregularities in the awarding of a contract and the installation of the radar system at Lusaka International Airport,” Kanjela said.
“She has been charged with the offence of abuse of authority of office and we recorded a caution statement from her.”
The radar system was installed between 2008 and 2010.
If found guilty, Siliya faces a jail sentence of at least five years.
Siliya, a close Banda ally, was limping as she arrived at the investigators’ offices accompanied by her attorneys.
She is also connected to the sale of Zambia’s state telecommunications company, Zamtel, which President Michael Sata — who beat Banda in September elections — claims was corruptly sold to LAP Green of Libya. — AFP.
