ZANU PF is working on reclaiming Goromonzi South seat lost to the MDC-Alliance during the 2018 harmonised elections.
Incarcerated former Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Petronella Kagonye lost to Mr Reuben Chikudo of the MDC-Alliance in the constituency.
Speaking at a Zanu PF mobilisation strategy meeting at Solomio in Goromonzi South recently, Goromonzi District Coordinating Committee vice chairman Cde Asan Seremeni challenged party supporters to register to vote so as to win the seat resoundingly.
Zanu PF is targeting to mobilise five million voters for 2023 harmonised elections for the party and President Mnangagwa.
Youths were urged to get national identity cards for free and register to vote for 2023 harmonised elections.
Solomio is a haven for land barons who are reportedly fleecing people of their hard earned cash.
Cde Seremeni warned Solomio residents to stop paying subscriptions to land barons who are fleecing them, saying the Government was in the process of regularising their houses.
“Government has launched the national regularisation programme, which is expected to tighten the screws on land barons by bringing sanity in Goromonzi South,” said Cde Seremeni.
“Land barons have been swindling unsuspecting homeseekers of millions of dollars and depriving local authorities of much-needed income.”
Party members were urged to be united and work towards mobilising new voters ahead of the forthcoming elections.
“We do not want division in Goromonzi, which will cost the outcome of the elections. We want to win resoundingly for the President and the party,” he said.
In 2018, out of the 17 wards in Goromonzi South, Zanu PF won only seven.
Goromonzi DCC Secretary for Environment Cde Ben Chivandire urged youths to start empowerment projects.
Cde Chivandire said Zanu PF has availed sound policies aimed at benefiting youths, and those wishing to venture into business should apply loans from EmpowerBank, which was set up to financially assist youths.
“The Government will soon avail land to youths as an empowerment drive. The President is on record saying, ‘no one will be left behind’,” said Cde Chivandire.
