ZANU-PF has started its membership verification process to strengthen its structures in Matabeleland North Province. Team leaders visited districts over the weekend verifying the revolutionary party’s membership at cell level going up. The teams led by Central Committee members however, could not complete the exercise. They will now return to complete Bubi, Lupane, Hwange, Nkayi, Tsholotsho and Umguza on dates to be advised.

In Victoria Falls, the team started the process at the party’s Maqhawe district and rescheduled other districts because of limited time. Two wards had been verified when the process was postponed.

In an interview, the party’s provincial chair, Cde Richard Moyo said the process had started well.

“The process started in earnest with some teams visiting districts last week. Some wards in Nkayi and Lupane have been verified while Bubi, Hwange, Tsholotsho and Umguza were supposed to start yesterday (Saturday). Only Binga had not been visited. Generally, everything is on course as the teams are expected to complete the exercise in April,” he said.

Verification teams are working with local leaders who are mobilising party members in their cells in every district.

In Hwange district the Central Committee members are working with provincial vice-chairman, Cde Nelson Sibanda, while Cde Stars Mathe is in Nkayi. Cde Martin Khumalo is covering Lupane, Cde Moses Moyo in Umguza and in Tsholotsho there is Cde Zenzo Sibanda.

In Bubi there is Cde Douglas Khoza and Cde Siyangaphi is expected to cover Binga.

The Central Committee teams report to Politburo member and party spokesperson, Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo who is leading the team which was deployed to Matabeleland North Province.

The verification process would help ascertain the number of party members in each party structure from cell level, the primary party structure to which every member belongs.

The massive audit and verification exercise started some two weeks ago with Politburo-led teams dispatched in all the 10 provinces to spearhead the process.

Team leaders are expected to submit a complete record of provincial party structures to the National Political Commissar after completing the exercise.

According to a circular addressed to leaders of the verification teams by the Secretary for Commissariat, Cde Saviour Kasukuwere, all teams are expected to complete the exercise by the end of April.
