ZANU PF Central Committee member, Cde Paul Tungwarara, has donated 50 buses to ferry Manicaland citizens returning from South Africa via Beitbridge Border Post.
The citizens are being repatriated in phases, and to date 200 people from the province have been identified at the border.
Cde Tungwarara, who is Presidential Special Advisor on Investment, said that in addition to free transport, returnees will receive meals, as many are in dire circumstances.
Beneficiaries must, however, produce national identity cards confirming residence in any of the province’s seven districts.
“We have Manicaland returnees stranded at the border, and we met as leadership and resolved to deploy buses from the Women’s League, Youth League and Main Wing to rescue them and take them to their districts in the province free of charge. We have given Cde Mupfumi the green light to deploy up to 50 buses,” said Cde Tungwarara.
ZANU PF Manicaland provincial chairman, Cde Tawanda Mukodza welcomed the donation as a timely intervention that aligns with the party’s commitment to assist those stranded at Beitbridge Border Post.
“These are our people, our children, and we cannot leave them stranded at the border without dignity or support,” said Cde Mukodza, adding that the provincial leadership has put logistics in place to ensure that all verified returnees are safely transported and dropped off in their respective districts at no cost.
Cde Mukodza said the initiative demonstrates party unity and responsiveness, and will restore hope to families awaiting their loved ones’ return.
Cde Isau Mupfumi, also a Central Committee member and transporter providing the fleet, said the first batch of 200 stranded returnees will be transported from Beitbridge from tomorrow (Tuesday).
“So far, there are 200 returnees at Beitbridge, and we are ready to deploy two buses immediately to collect and take them home. Some had already dispersed because they were unaware of this programme. Manicaland returnees should not worry as we have the logistics in place to get them to their districts using reliable transport. We also have five buses to be deployed through Young Women 4ED to assist their cross-border members,” said Cde Mupfumi.
