Zanu-PF Bulawayo dissolves Christopher Dube executive

THE ZANU-PF Bulawayo provincial executive led by Cde Christopher Dube was yesterday dissolved and replaced by an interim one led by former Bulawayo Mayor Alderman Dennis Ndlovu.

Cde Ndlovu was appointed to lead the province together with five other members during a meeting presided over by the party’s national commissar Cde Saviour Kasukuwere at Davies Hall.

Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko and some members of the party’s Central Committee from Bulawayo province also attended the meeting that saw Cdes Michael Sikhosana, Nacisio Makhulumo, Mathew Smith, Charlton Sivako and George Mlala making it into the top six.

Cde Kasukuwere told The Chronicle that the move to appoint the interim executive was in line with the Politburo directive.

“We’ve put an interim executive for Bulawayo province in compliance with the Politburo decision,” said Cde Kasukuwere.

Alderman Ndlovu will be deputised by Sikhosana while Smith is the new treasurer and Makhulumo is secretary for administration.

Sivako is the new provincial commissar with Mlala taking over as the secretary for security.

Other members of Dube’s executive were not affected.

Last November, a vote of no confidence was passed against Dube and other executive members but only Professor Callistus Ndlovu lost his position after the Politburo ordered the rest to remain in office pending investigations.

Sikhosana said the decision by the Politburo cannot be challenged as Dube and the other five had a vote of no confidence passed against them.

“The Politburo has made the decision and it’s final. The national commissar read out the allegations against the top six members following their suspension from the party for two years.

“These are the same people who had a vote of no confidence passed against them last year,” said Cde Sikhosana.

Last week, the Politburo upheld the vote of no confidence passed on several party leaders in the run up to the 6th National People’s Congress held last year and prohibited the affected members from holding leadership positions in Zanu-PF for two years with effect from January this year.

A senior party official, who spoke on condition of anonymity said the dissolution of the top six was in line with the party’s restructuring exercise to mobilise Bulawayo people to vote for the party in the forthcoming by-elections.

“This is in line with the thrust of our party to appoint leaders that have the capacity to mobilise Bulawayo people to vote for the party,” said the official.
