ZANU-PF Bulawayo Central District has a new executive after going for more than two years without leadership.
Cde Joe Chiyangwa was elected the district’s chairman during the elections held at Davis Hall yesterday ahead of the national congress next month.

He beat three other contestants.

Cde Charles Chiwara was elected vice chairman.

The secretary for administration post went to Cde Shephered Mutendahama while Cde Stancilus Chidendere was voted the secretary for commissariat. Cde Norman Moyo is the secretary for finance.

Cde Aleck Moyo is the district’s new secretary for security and Bulawayo businessman, Cde Raj Modi, is the secretary for indigenisation.
The district’s executive was dissolved sometime in 2012 following misunderstandings within the district’s structures.

In an interview after observing the elections, Minister of State for Bulawayo Provincial Affairs Cde Nomthandazo Eunice Moyo said it was agreed that elections be conducted for the district to prepare for the party’s national congress.

“The district had gone for a long time without leadership due to misunderstandings that were there among party members. It was therefore agreed that there should be elections so that the district is represented at the congress,” said Cde Moyo.

She added: “Before the elections, all the party members agreed that they were now ready to work together. I’m happy that the elections process was peaceful and fair.”

Cde Moyo said the process was thorough as they made sure that all the people who participated were registered voters from the district.

“I’m sure that when we go for the congress next month, the district will be well organised. The provincial leadership is in the process of inspecting the structures of all the districts in the province.

“We’ve covered a number of areas so far and I’m glad that there’s order in most of the districts,” said Cde Moyo.

Cde Chiyangwa, who is the previous chairperson, pledged to work tirelessly to promote unity in the party.

“I’m happy that the district now has leadership. This was long overdue. The elections are over and now it’s time to work for the party. I promise to exert all my energy and work with everyone to promote development and unity in the party,” he said.
