ZANU PF provincial political commissar for Mashonaland East Cde Lincon Matare has hailed the party’s victory in two local authority by-elections in Marondera and Chikomba districts over the weekend.
In an interview soon after the results were announced, Cde Matare said the results show that the people have trust in the ruling party.
“We are happy as a party just to know that the people of Zimbabwe have trust in us and we managed to win in the just-ended by-elections in Marondera and Chikomba districts. We want to thank our supporters for this,” he said.
“People are aware of the good works that the party and Government under the able leadership of President Mnangagwa are doing.
“Our President is a man of his word. He fulfils every promise and people are aware of that, this is the reason the revolutionary party has been winning in all the by-elections held so far across Zimbabwe.”
In Chikomba in Ward 10 Cde Tafadzwa Mukandi won with 447 votes, sealing his victory, while his rival an independent secured 290 votes.
In Marondera’s Ward 6, the ruling party’s candidate Cde Fiona Tongawashe, won with 928 votes against her rival, Mr Richard Ziyanga (independent), who got only 22 votes.
Marondera Rural District Council (RDC) chairman Cde Jeremiah Gwanzura saluted the people of Marondera for the peaceful elections.
He congratulated Cde Tongawashe, urging her to work towards advancing development and improving the livelihoods of the people in Ward 6.
“There is massive development being carried out by the Marondera Rural District Council and people have confidence in the party,” he said.
“Remember, President Mnangagwa launched the ‘Call to Action: No compromise to service delivery’ blueprint, and as a local authority, we are implementing it, and people are seeing development everywhere. This has instilled confidence and trust towards the party from the people.
“So we are happy as a council that there is now a councillor who has joined us and will represent the people of Ward 6. As a council, we will continue to work hard to bring quality service delivery and development to the people,” he said.
Alderman Israel Dhikinya, council chairman for Chikomba RDC said the development across his district informed by excellent policies by the party under President Mnangagwa enabled ZANU PF to win resoundingly in Ward 10.
“The seat, which had gone to CCC, has returned to ZANU PF. This is because of the development thrust brought about by President Mnangagwa, which is being witnessed by the people of Chikomba. We are optimistic that the councillor will work hard to develop the ward and win more people for the party,” he said.
Ald Dhikinya thanked the voters and all those who worked hard to ensure the process was a success.
