ZANU-PF Bulawayo province has centralised its fundraising programme ahead of the party’s 16th Annual People’s Conference to curb cases of some corrupt officials using the event to milk individuals and organisations of money.

Such corrupt officials approach organisations and individuals on the pretext of raising money towards hosting the conference but convert the monies to their personal use.

Zanu-PF Bulawayo provincial chairperson Cde Dennis Ndlovu yesterday said this time around, the party has resolved that only the secretary for finance, Cde Butho Gatsi, is charged with collecting cash from donors.

“This year, we have resolved that only Cde Gatsi will be in charge of fundraising and is mandated to approach persons and organisations to seek donations. In essence, no one but the secretary for finance will collect money from anyone” said Cde Ndlovu.

“We want it to be known that anyone else who will go around asking or trying to collect money will be sent to the police. We will not have mercy on people who tarnish the image of the party through nefarious activities.”

The party has in recent years seen cases, especially of some party youths, approaching various organisations and individuals seeking donations for the holding of the annual conference with some going to the extent of forging letters. However, instead of surrendering the money to the party, the unscrupulous elements would convert the money to their own use and in the process prejudicing and tarnishing the name of Zanu-PF.
