Zanu-PF calls for unity in Masvingo

Hundreds of Zanu-PF supporters converged at the homestead of Cde Killer Zivhu, the Chivi Ward 31 councillor, on Saturday to celebrate the party’s victory in the July 31 harmonised elections. The villagers were treated to music by rising gospel singer Mathias Mhere.

Speaking at the event, Zanu-PF leaders from the province called for unity and for those in positions to respect the people who voted for them.

Gutu Senator, Cde Shuvai Mahofa, said factionalism in the province was contributing to disunity among the party’s leaders.
“Everyone in power right now did not impose themselves,” she said.

“It was the people who voted for whoever they wanted and we need to respect that. Let us all desist from forming factional groups within the party as this will only bring more harm than good to the party.”

Sen Mahofa warned Cde Zivhu, who was elected the chairperson for Chivi Rural District Council, not to work against the people’s wishes.
“You must know that the people trust you and that’s why they voted for you,” she said. “So, the ball is now in your court to prove to them that they did not make a mistake by voting for you.

Make sure that your council delivers good and tangible results to the people and never engage in corrupt activities as this will make you unpopular and an enemy of the people.”

Chiefs’ Council president Chief Fortune Charumbira said after defeating the MDC formations in the harmonised elections, Zanu-PF leaders would be their own worst enemies if they started fighting among themselves.

“We must not have divisions as we head for the provincial elections (on Saturday),” he said. “We must not fight on our own as leaders in the province. Factionalism in Masvingo province is a very serious issue and must be brought to the President’s attention before it destroys the party.”

Cde Zivhu thanked the people for voting for President Mugabe and for trusting him to lead them at council level. He said one of his immediate tasks was to ensure that people in Chivi benefited from Tokwe-Murkosi Dam that is set to be completed soon.

“We want all those from Chivi to come together under the Chivi Trust and help us with ideas on how we can develop the district,” he said.
“The Government must ensure that those being relocated to pave way for the dam have all the amenities in their new areas.”
Cde Zivhu said people in his area were against further displacements because of the dam.

The victory celebrations were attended by party officials who included Chivi Central legislator and Central Committee member Cde Paul Mangwana, Chivi South MP Cde Mafios Utete, Chivi North MP and Deputy Minister for Youth, Indiginisation and Economic Development Cde Mathias Tongofa.
