ONE spectacle that cannot be overlooked at Zanu-PF campaign rallies is the hype and energy from the crowds that will be expressing their joy and support for the revolutionary party through song and dance.
Much to the delight of many, local artistes have displayed a great deal of talent by composing songs about the revolutionary party and its achievements under the leadership of President Mnangangwa.
Before the arrival of the guest at any Zanu-PF rally, the crowd gets to dance to this electrifying music. Videos from rallies held across various provinces have shown that the crowds from each area are a force to reckon with.
The rallies have evolved as in the past only the crowds used to do the singing but now there is a growth of recorded music.
This has provided a platform for local artistes to showcase their talent. Their songs are a mixture of Chimurenga songs and jiti.
The crowds also break into song once the guest arrives as a sign of honour and celebration.
Speaking during a Zanu-PF rally in Gwanda recently, party supporter said the music helps to brighten the mood at the rallies.
“When it comes to entertainment and raising the morale, I know that Zanu-PF rallies don’t disappoint. Even if you’re not a supporter, once you get to a Zanu-PF rally, you can’t help but dance. The music is very good and captivating and it steals the hearts of many. I’m glad that it is from our own local artistes.
“I’m also glad that the songs are in vernacular which helps us to identify with the music. The music has a traditional touch to it which makes it even more appropriate. The message in these songs is captivating and it’s relevant. We have great talent as a country and we see some of it being showcased during Zanu-PF rallies. Some of our upcoming artistes have found a platform to showcase their talent, thanks to these rallies,” he said.
Cde Dube said the music helps to set the tone and prepare them for the speeches. He said live performances from artistes are also captivating.
Ms Sanelisiwe Mnkandla from Gwanda District said the crowds never disappoint when it comes to dancing to music during Zanu-PF rallies. She said the supporters are always in a celebratory mood and the music helps to boost the vibe. Ms Mnkandla said opportunity given to the people to celebrate helps to uplift the spirits of people and also unifies them.
“Music is a language of joy and it unifies people. Whenever I get to a rally I get to dance and enjoy myself and even though I’m stressed I become relieved. I end up dancing and laughing with people I don’t know because the mood will be on another level. People are always in the mood to dance and their energy will be on another level,” she said.
Ms Mnkandla said the music that has been composed for the revolutionary party has a strong message which reminds the nation of the great work that has been done by the revolutionary party. She said it is an effective tool of garnering support for Zanu-PF.
Ms Mnkandla said the songs are not only entertaining but they are also informative as they highlight projects under the Second Republic.
Cde Ndabezinhle Nyoni said while he could no longer dance because of his old age, it is always a delight to watch as the youngsters dance. He said the vigour which the youngsters have reminds him of the time when the black people took a stand to liberate the country.
“The power of music and song dates back to the liberation struggle. Slogans, songs and music instilled hope in the liberation fighters and masses to fight for the liberation of this country. They gave liberation fighters strength to continue fighting and it was a way of offering them moral support.
“When we sing and dance today, we’re sending a message to our former colonisers that we won’t give up our land again. We’re also giving strength to our party leaders to show them that we’re rallying behind them and that they have our full support. I’m glad that the youth have taken a leading role in sending this message to the whole world,” he said.
Cde Nyoni said some of the dances and songs which are performed today were also performed at party meetings during the liberation struggle.
Cde Tracy Moyo said she enjoys dancing and singing during rallies as it is her way of expressing joy and support for the revolutionary party and its cause. She said a political meeting will not be complete without these performances. — @DubeMatutu
