THE Zanu PF cell/village restructuring exercise meant to take stock of its membership and recruit new members is progressing well across the country.
The revamping of cell structures is meant to enhance the revolutionary party’s presence at the grassroots level and ultimately benefit communities. Zanu PF First Secretary President Mnangagwa has emphasised that the cell restructuring exercise must see more new members joining the revolutionary party.
Confirmation from various provinces yesterday indicated that the exercise is being executed smoothly. In some provinces such as Mashonaland East, Zanu PF provincial executive conducted a workshop to educate district and branch executive members on Saturday on how they should conduct themselves during the exercise.
In Matabeleland North, cell registers were delivered last week. The registers will be used as a voters roll of the party, which determines its membership across the country.
Mashonaland East political commissar Cde Lincoln Matare said the cell verification exercise is going on smoothly. A workshop was held on Saturday to educate our District Coordinating Committee members.
“We have set up teams to educate our branch executive members who are in charge of building up cell structures. We want to come up with authentic cells registers. Our party members are responding very well, with new members’ keen to join the party,” said Cde Matare.
He said the province is expecting more than 600 000 members during the exercise.
According to the party’s Commissariat Department, the restructuring started on the 17th of June with the branch executive committees expected to physically carry out the restructuring of the cells and villages under their jurisdictions, with supervision from district and provincial leaders.
The head counting has started across the country, with the process expected to end on July 17.
Zanu PF Matabeleland North provincial chairman Cde Richard Moyo said they received cell registers last week.
“Currently, we are distributing cell registers to district and branch chairpersons who will supervise the building of the cell structures. Our members are ready for the exercise. We expect new members to come on board,” said Cde Moyo.
The election of cell and village executive committees shall be done through secret ballot with the new leadership tasked to immediately conduct verification of the members of their respective cells and villages to flush out imposters.
In Harare, the party’s provincial vice chairman Cde Ephraim Fundukwa said according to the reports from District Coordinating Committee structures the exercise is now in full swing.
“We are nearing 50 percent of the exercise. We started the actual cell verification last week on Monday. Those who are going to work are expected to register over the weekend, no one will be left behind,” he said.
Some church members, he said are setting up their own cells and elect their cell chairpersons.
He said they are going to have a review meeting this week to assess the progress made so far.
Mashonaland West Zanu PF provincial chairperson Cde Marry Mliswa-Chikoka confirmed receiving cell registers.
“As the province, we have been given up to July. We want to carry out authentic cells. Currently, we are entering the numbers,” said Cde Mliswa-Chikoka.
Manicaland Provincial chairperson Cde Tawanda Mukodza said they started distributing cell registers yesterday in all the constituencies.
“We are distributing the material (today) yesterday to DCC members. We expect the complete the exercise in six days to come,” said Cde Mukodza.
The restructuring exercise began with the convening of the Provincial Coordinating Committee, inter-district and inter branch meetings.
