Zanu-PF conference: A delight

SOMEONE once told us as then youths enjoying the newly found freedom in 1980 that, battling the Smith regime needed men and women of steel, who had gallant attributes which knew no fear.

In vernacular, Shona, they will say: “Zvaida Kushinga”.

There is a novel with that title which portrays the rigors and difficulties which the freedom fighters encountered during the war. Despite that heavy load shackling them, they emerged conquerors, delivered the Zimbabwe we all want and enjoy today.

Zimbabweans are simply fighters who have the oomph to apply their resilience even in hard times.

The British and their American poodles thought they could break down this courage yet they were actually increasing the resistance and innovation which naturally emerge from this hard working people.

The detractors were it again, with their Trojan horse, the private press going overdrive anticipating a blood bath at the recently held 15th Annual People’s Conference in the serene environments of one of the world’s mighty wonders, the Victoria Falls.

The conference appropriately themed: “Consolidating the People’s Power through Zim-Asset” was what the people of Zimbabwe wanted as an end of year gift.

Indeed perusals of the resolutions of the conference reveals a party which revels and extract great delight in solving all issues that are central to the people’s lives.

The resolutions centred on the economic arena especially the rehabilitation of the irrigation system which will enable the nation to mitigate the vagaries of weather, the increase in power supply which is a key ingredient in the production systems of the economy, rehabilitation and increase in the water supplies for residential and industrial purposes.

Even provinces had well thought resolutions which they presented to the conference, Masvingo Province recommended the party to increase aid in drought stricken areas and for Government to have greater focus on such projects as Tokwe-Mukorsi which can instantly change the livelihoods of the populace.

Mashonalnd East implored Government to rationalise farms so as to ensure that there is maximum productivity.

As the people’s party which embraces all people irrespective of their physical limitations, Mashonaland West Province recommended that people with disability be accorded opportunities in the mainstream economy.

These are just a few of the resolutions among a plethora of such pro-people resolutions which the people’s party, Zanu-PF engineered for the people.

It can only be a witch in the village who would shamelessly cry at a wedding, an event where friends and foes unite to wish the new weds a blissful future till eternity.

Zanu-PF’s gathering annually to evaluate its activities which it made for the people, to analyse and introspect so as to enable firm evaluation of the people’s programmes.

No other party can do such nobility for the people in Zimbabwe. Zanu-PF has the people’s desires as its driving force.

The body language of its leader, Africa’s luminary son, President Mugabe says it all.

Even the prophets of doom, the usual suspects who hate democracy to the core, the British and the American have come to accept the truth which is that Zanu-PF is deeply entrenched in the populace hence no amount of coercion especially from foreigners will alienate it from the masses.

Yesteryear colonisers masquerading as champions of democracy in an independent nation which they had brutally monopolise, treating its people as slaves.

Where were they when the gallant sons and daughters of the soil took up arms to fight the oppressive regime of Ian Smith? Why did America and Britain fail to set non- governmental organisations where they will pour money to dislodge the racist murders led by Smith?

Where was the so-called democracy then?

Isn’t it ironic that democracy has become a buzz now when Africa is now independent? It is such double standards which we will resist as Zimbabweans in particular and Africans in general.

It is the barrel of the gun which the mighty daughters and sons of Zimbabwe used to usher democracy in Zimbabwe.

I recall an incident in which the late intellectual par excellence, Dr Edson Zvobgo narrated how even men of clothes who are supposed to lead the way in morality fumigated sofas which the then young blacks had used during a conversation with a white priest. This is how diabolic some of these white people were.

Now as if to want to confirm that we do not understand history, the same vagabonds pretend to be people of goodwill and good heart by wanting to portray themselves as champions of democracy. Surely if it is not pure idiocy then it must be undiluted foolishness.

If one was to read into the events and deliberations of the conference, one would observe that indeed Zimbabwe is genuinely liberated country which has set the pace for all Africans to own their own life’s trajectory and ultimately destiny.

Zimbabweans are their own liberators.

Even those amidst the party who want to sow seeds of disunity and create anarchy through the so called vice of factionalism had their tails between their legs as the progressive people made their own history in Victoria Falls. Indeed the people spoke and their will was granted as epitomised by the conference resolutions. Indeed Zanu-PF is the people’s party.
