ZANU – PF has dispatched a high-level delegation to attend ANC’s (African National Council) 5th National General Council (NGC) in South Africa.

Politburo members, Cdes Webster Shamu (Deputy National Political Commissar) and Sithembiso Nyoni (Secretary for Business Liaison) are representing Zanu PF.

The ANC’s NGC is currently underway at the Birchwood Hotel and Conference Centre in Boksburg, Gauteng, and is billed as a critical moment for internal renewal and reflection for the South African ruling party.

The meeting is scheduled to run from December 8 to 12.

ANC Secretary General, Mr Fikile Mbalula, was quoted in the South African media saying the conference’s focus is on organisational renewal and implementation of resolutions adopted at the party’s 2022 national conference.

“The NGC is expected to review the party’s performance, address structural problems and chart a path forward ahead of the 2026 local government elections,” said Cde Mbalula.

He said the party’s commitment to internal discipline and efficiency was paramount in the sustaining the longevity of Africa’s oldest party and liberation movement.

“The party has tightened deadlines for regional and branch meetings to ensure all structures are in good standing and plans to enforce its internal disciplinary rule more strictly,” Cde Mbalula added.

Zanu PF’s attendance underscores the deep fraternal relations between the two former liberation movements.

The two parties share a history of collaboration dating back to the liberation struggle and the fight against apartheid, according to Zanu- PF protocol official.

The two revolutionary political parties’ leadership shared the same trenches during the liberation struggle, forming the basis for their continued geopolitical and economic interactions in the post-independence era.

Zanu PF maintains strong relations with fellow liberation movements across the Southern African region (SADC), including the ANC, Mozambique’s Frelimo, Namibia’s Swapo, Angola’s MPLA, and Tanzania’s Chama Cha Mapinduzi, among others.

Beyond the region, ZANU-PF has also cultivated relations with countries in North Africa such as Libya, Algeria, and Egypt, while overseas relations were forged with countries such as China, Russia, Cuba, Romania, and Korea.

Zimbabwe is also an active member of regional and global multilateral organisations such as SADC, COMESA, the African Union, Non-Aligned Movement, and the United Nations.
