Zanu-PF demands projects reports

THE ruling Zanu-PF party will in January demand reports from all its legislators spelling out development projects they have embarked on in the past three months, the National Chairman, Cde Simon Khaya Moyo, said.
Speaking at the party’s victory celebrations for Mangwe Member of Parliament, Cde Obedingwa Mguni on Saturday, Cde Khaya Moyo, who is also the Senior Minister of State, said the reports would be  followed by an inspection exercise.

“We want reports from all Members of Parliament on the development initiatives implemented in their areas over the past three months.
“This will be followed by a follow-up exercise in each constituency where we will be verifying whether the contents of the reports are true,” he said.

Cde Khaya Moyo said legislators should consult their constituents before crafting development projects.
“Within this space before year end consult the people first and find out the development initiatives they expect. As legislators you should desist from crafting irrelevant projects.

“Your performance in the coming five years should be a clear indication that you are up to the task,” he said.
Cde Khaya Moyo asked Members of Parliament and councillors to ensure that food relief programmes by the Government were properly implemented in their areas.

“I would like to urge MPs and councillors to ensure that food, which is being distributed will reach the intended people. Make follow ups on all programmes that will be implemented in your areas and tightly monitor the ongoing farming inputs distribution programme,” he said.
In separate interviews at the celebrations people of Mangwe said they expected legislators to be answerable to the people.

“We appreciate that legislators will be closely monitored and we hope this will enhance their performance. It is high time we are presented with development which materialises and not promises of development only.

“I expect an improvement in the state of roads and schools. Our children are exposed to unconducive learning environment. An example is Water Shed Primary School which is in Marula area which does not have proper classrooms,” said Mr Andrew Sikhosana from Marula area.
Also speaking during the same function, Zanu-PF provincial chairperson for Matabeleland South and Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Cde Andrew Langa said the party had successfully conducted celebrations in all its constituencies.

“The province is now a one-party province. We have successfully conducted celebrations in all the 13 constituencies. We started in Umzingwane and ended in Mangwe and throughout this whole process people have displayed unity,” said Cde Langa.

Also present at the celebrations were Minister of State for Provincial Affairs in Bulawayo, Cde Nomthandazo Eunice Moyo, Zanu-PF Politburo member Cde Richard Ndlovu, Members of Parliament from Matabeleland South, heads of Government departments, businesspeople and delegates from South Africa.
